VOCAL Board Meetings

VOCAL Board meetings are regularly set for the first Wednesday of every other month, beginning in January, and are held from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm in Charlottesville.  A catered lunch is provided during the meetings, generally on or about 11:30am.  Mileage reimbursements are also available.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING:  BOARD FOR PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY

Virginia Office for Protection and Advocacy

The Governing Board of VOPA will meet on July 22 at the VOPA Conference Room, 1910 Byrd Avenue, Suite 5, Richmond. This meeting is open to the public and public comment is welcomed by the Board and will be received beginning at 9 a.m. Public comment is also welcomed by telephone. Contact Lisa Shehi and 1-800-552-3962 no later than July 8 to arrange for public comment via telephone. If interpreter services or other accommodations are required, also contact Ms. Shehi.

The National Center for Trauma Informed Care Forum

NCTIC will host Dare to Transform: Revolutionizing Mental Health and Human Services on July 11 and 12, 2008 in Washington, DC. This is a 2-day learning exchange and networking transformation forum to highlight useful and practical strategies for moving forward together with the implementation of trauma-informed care. The forum will mark a first step toward creating a trauma-informed network for the personal exchange of implementation knowledge and strategies for the transformation to trauma-informed care across the spectrum of health and human services.

We hope to hear from consumers/survivors about the good work being done around trauma-informed care. The National Association of Peer Specialists

The 2008 conference is scheduled for August 20-22 in Philadelphia at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel. It is an easy walk to the Liberty Bell, museums, Independence Hall, restaurants, and other attractions.

This year's conference has been expanded to 2 1/2 days and will feature many workshops, a peer art exhibit, keynotes, a screening of the film Canvas, and fun evening events.

VOCAL is a co-sponsor of this event, in support of our D.C. peer neighbors.
